Tipping in Mallorca is optional. You can leave something extra after an enjoyable restaurant meal, but there is no fixed percentage you must add. The official Mallorca tourism guide describes tipping as customary in restaurants and bars without setting a percentage.
Once you know that, you can spend less time worrying about the bill and more time choosing your evening. If you want dinner, live performances and cocktails in Playa de Palma, come to Tabana. Bring your partner for a date, gather your friends around a table or book a night to celebrate something special.
Do you tip in Mallorca restaurants?
You can, if you want to thank the team for the service. It is a personal choice rather than an automatic addition to every meal.
Spain’s official tourism website, Spain.info, explains that tipping is not obligatory and service is included. You do not need to copy the tipping percentage you use at home. Choose any extra amount according to your experience and budget.
A leisurely dinner, help with choosing dishes or attentive service during a celebration may make you want to leave a tip. You can also settle the stated bill without adding one.
How much should you tip after dinner?
There is no single amount that suits every table. Spain.info gives 5–10% as common guidance, depending on the bill and the customer’s choice. Treat that as an optional reference, rather than a required restaurant charge.
For example, on a €100 bill, 5% is €5 and 10% is €10. These are optional examples, rather than required amounts. You can choose a smaller amount, another amount or no tip.
For a drink or a smaller order, you do not need to apply a dinner-sized percentage calculation. Decide whether you want to leave anything extra and keep it within your own budget.
Check your restaurant bill before adding a tip
Take a moment to review the food and drinks on the bill. If an item is unfamiliar, ask the server what it means before paying. A quick question is easier than guessing whether something is a dish, a booking-related amount or a gratuity.
You may see IVA on a Spanish bill. It means value added tax, as explained by the Spanish Tax Agency. It is a tax, rather than a tip.
If you have booked a special event with a minimum spend, review those conditions separately. A food and drink minimum is a reservation commitment. Our guide to minimum spend at a restaurant or event explains how to prepare for that type of booking. Ask our team about your bill and reservation terms before deciding on any voluntary extra.
Should you leave a tip in cash or by card?
Ask the server how you can leave a tip before completing payment. Being able to pay the bill by card does not by itself tell you how the venue handles card gratuities.
If you would like to leave cash, make your intention clear when handing it over. If you would prefer to add an amount by card, ask whether that is possible before the payment is processed. The server can explain the available options.
When dining at Tabana, our team can answer payment questions at the table. You can also contact us before your visit if you need to arrange something specific.
Tipping when you dine as a group
A shared dinner is easier when everyone knows how the bill will be handled. Before the end of the meal, agree whether one person will pay, how the group will reimburse them and whether anyone wants to contribute to a voluntary tip.
For example, if six friends choose to leave €12 between them, that is €2 each. It is an example of a group decision, rather than an amount a restaurant requires. Avoid collecting an extra percentage from everyone without telling them what it is for.
If your group needs separate payments, ask the team how that can be arranged. Do not assume that separate itemised bills or every payment combination will be available.
Planning a birthday or a holiday dinner with friends? Tell us your group size and what you are celebrating. We can discuss the reservation before you arrive, so the organiser has the information needed to share the plan.
Make Tabana your dinner plan in Playa de Palma
The bill comes at the end. Start by choosing a night you want to enjoy.
At Tabana, dinner and live entertainment happen in the same venue. Our à la carte menu includes sushi, Mediterranean dishes, seafood, pasta and grilled meats, with plates you can share before choosing your mains. Look through our menu and drinks selection before coming.
For a couple, it is a dinner date with performances and somewhere to stay for drinks. For friends, it is one evening plan that brings the group together. If you are celebrating an anniversary or a birthday, mention the occasion when reserving.
Our regular nights feature live acts at intervals during dinner, with the DJ party beginning at around 11pm. We open daily from 8pm to 2am. Special events have their own booking conditions, so check the details for your chosen date.
You will find us at Avinguda de Son Rigo, 4, Playa de Palma, Mallorca. If you are staying in central Palma or elsewhere on the island, prepare your journey home as well as the trip to dinner.
Reserve your table at Tabana and give your Mallorca trip a night of dinner, drinks and live performances.
Frequently asked questions about tipping in Mallorca
Is tipping compulsory in Mallorca?
No. It is a voluntary gesture. You can leave an extra amount for service you enjoyed, or pay the stated restaurant bill without adding a tip.
Is 10% the expected restaurant tip?
There is no fixed percentage in Mallorca. Spain.info gives 5–10% as general guidance, but it is not a required amount. Choose according to your experience and budget.
Can I leave a tip when paying by card?
Ask the server before paying. Card payment for the bill and card gratuities are separate questions, and the available process depends on the venue.
Does IVA on the bill mean a tip?
No. IVA is value added tax. Ask the team to explain any other item you do not recognise before settling the bill.
Should everyone in a group add their own tip?
Agree it together. One person can coordinate a shared voluntary amount if the group wants to leave one. Discuss payment arrangements with the restaurant rather than assuming separate bills are available.
Where can I book dinner with live entertainment in Playa de Palma?
Come to Tabana for à la carte dinner, live performances and drinks in one venue. Reserve for a couple, a group of friends or a celebration, and check any special-event conditions for your date.
