Choose Palma city if you want historic streets, cocktail bars, tapas stops and the freedom to move between several neighbourhoods. Choose Playa de Palma if you are staying near the beach and want to combine the seafront, dinner, live entertainment and later music without spending part of the evening travelling into the city and back.

For guests staying in Playa de Palma, Can Pastilla or S’Arenal, staying near the coast is often the easier choice. You can enjoy more of your evening, organise fewer journeys and keep your group together.

The main decision is simple. If exploring Palma itself is the purpose of your evening, go into the city. If you want a complete night out close to your Playa de Palma hotel, staying local normally makes more sense.

Playa de Palma Is Not Palma City Centre

This distinction causes considerable confusion for visitors.

Playa de Palma forms part of the wider Palma area, but it is not the historic city centre. The resort stretches along the bay between Can Pastilla and S’Arenal, with a long beach, promenade, hotels, restaurants, shops and nightlife venues.

Palma city centre is where you will find the cathedral, the Old Town and nightlife areas such as La Lonja, Santa Catalina, Paseo Marítimo, El Terreno and Gomila.

A hotel or restaurant can therefore use “Palma” in its address without being within walking distance of Palma Cathedral or the Old Town. Always look at the exact location when organising the night.

We are based at Avenida Son Rigo 4 in Playa de Palma, behind the beachfront between the Balneari 8 and Balneari 9 areas. We are not in central Palma, and that is one of our advantages for visitors staying around the beach.

What Is Palma Nightlife Actually Like?

Palma nightlife is not concentrated on one street. Different parts of the city offer different kinds of evening, so going into Palma works best when you know which area suits you.

La Lonja and the Old Town

La Lonja is a natural choice for visitors who want historic surroundings, narrow streets, restaurant terraces and cocktail bars.

An evening here can begin with a walk near Palma Cathedral and the waterfront before continuing through the Old Town. It suits couples and small groups who enjoy moving between different places and do not mind making several decisions during the night.

The atmosphere usually feels more urban than resort-based. The trade-off is that popular streets can become busy, tables may require reservations and you will still need transport back to Playa de Palma.

Santa Catalina

Santa Catalina is known for its mixture of restaurants, international influences, cocktail bars and later-night venues. It attracts residents as well as visitors, which gives it a different atmosphere from the beachfront resorts.

It is a good choice if food and bar hopping are the priorities. However, the area is west of the Old Town, so it adds more distance if your accommodation is in Playa de Palma.

Paseo Marítimo, El Terreno and Gomila

These areas suit visitors looking for later bars, music and clubs. The nightlife can continue well beyond dinner, but venues are spread out and the best route depends on where you start and finish.

This is where planning becomes important. Dinner in the Old Town, drinks in Santa Catalina and a club elsewhere may sound easy, but each additional stop introduces another walk, taxi or queue.

Who Should Choose Palma City?

Palma city is likely to suit you if:

• You want historic surroundings to be part of the night
• You enjoy moving between restaurants, bars and clubs
• You want a wider selection of cocktail bars
• You are staying in Palma city or close to the centre
• You are visiting outside the main beach season
• You do not mind arranging transport back at the end of the night

Palma offers more variety, but that variety comes with more organisation.

What Is Playa de Palma Nightlife Actually Like?

Playa de Palma nightlife is often described as if the whole resort were one enormous party strip. That is not accurate.

The atmosphere changes considerably as you move around the bay. Knowing the different sections helps you choose the right evening.

Can Pastilla

Can Pastilla is generally calmer than the busiest areas closer to S’Arenal. It has a marina, beachfront restaurants, terraces and a relaxed promenade atmosphere.

This end of the bay works well for an early walk, a quiet drink or the beginning of an evening. It is also close to Palma Aquarium, although the aquarium is an afternoon activity rather than a nightlife venue.

Central Playa de Palma

The central section offers hotels, beach access, restaurants, bars and an easy connection between the promenade and the streets immediately behind it.

This is where you will find Tabana. We are close enough to the beachfront for the evening to begin with a promenade walk, but our experience takes place indoors, away from the busiest section of the seafront.

Central Playa de Palma is particularly convenient for visitors who want a lively evening without committing to the most intense party areas.

Balneari 6

Balneari 6 is the part most strongly associated with the German party scene and the name Ballermann. It is energetic, busy and focused heavily on drinking and large-group nightlife during the main season.

That experience attracts plenty of visitors, but it is only one part of Playa de Palma. Staying in or visiting Playa de Palma does not mean that your entire night must revolve around Ballermann.

S’Arenal

S’Arenal sits at the eastern end of the bay and has a dense collection of hotels, bars, restaurants and late-night venues. It becomes particularly lively during summer.

It can suit groups looking for busy resort nightlife, although the atmosphere differs from both central Playa de Palma and Can Pastilla.

How the Balneari Numbers Work

Visitors often use hotel names or street addresses, while local directions frequently refer to the numbered balnearis.

The numbering begins at the Can Pastilla side with Balneari 15 and descends towards Balneari 1 near S’Arenal. Balneari 6 is the best-known party area.

We are positioned behind the beachfront between the Balneari 8 and Balneari 9 sections. This places us in central Playa de Palma, away from Palma Old Town but also outside the most concentrated Ballermann area.

Who Should Choose Playa de Palma?

Playa de Palma is likely to suit you if:

• Your hotel is near the beach
• You want to avoid two additional taxi journeys
• You want the evening to begin with the beach or promenade
• You are organising a group, birthday or celebration
• You want dinner and entertainment in the same venue
• You want later music without searching for another club
• You prefer one main reservation instead of several separate bookings

For many visitors, the main benefit is not simply distance. It is being able to enjoy a full evening without repeatedly moving the group.

The Real Cost of Travelling Between Playa de Palma and Palma

Playa de Palma and Palma city look close on a map, but they are not part of the same walkable evening.

The journey from central Playa de Palma to Palma Old Town is approximately 10 to 11 kilometres by road. Here is what that means in practice.

The nearest line 25 stop to Tabana is Balneari 9, stop 427, approximately one minute away on foot. The route connects Playa de Palma and S’Arenal with the Cathedral and Plaça de la Reina area. You can view the official EMT line 25 route and timetable.

If you stay with us until our 2am closing time, a taxi is the practical choice because the final bus will normally have departed.

During July and August, a taxi back from Palma at around 1am can take 20 to 30 minutes to arrive. On Friday and Saturday nights, during rain or when several venues close at the same time, the wait can approach 45 minutes.

This does not mean that Palma city is too far away. It means that the journey needs to be part of the plan rather than an afterthought.

Should You Combine Playa de Palma and Palma City in One Night?

You can, but it is rarely the simplest option.

If you particularly want to see Palma Cathedral or walk through the Old Town, visit the city earlier in the day. You could then return to your Playa de Palma hotel, change and begin the evening locally.

Trying to fit an Old Town walk, city drinks, dinner in Playa de Palma and another late-night venue into the same night creates unnecessary deadlines. A delay in one area affects every reservation that follows.

If you decide to combine both areas, choose one as the main event. For example:

• Spend the afternoon and early evening in Palma, then return to Playa de Palma for dinner and the rest of the night
• Have dinner in Playa de Palma, then travel into Palma specifically for a late club
• Stay entirely in Palma if the city’s bars and neighbourhoods are the reason for going out
• Stay entirely in Playa de Palma if you want the beach, dinner, entertainment and music to flow together

The weakest plan is travelling between the two areas without deciding where the main part of the evening will happen.

From Around 11pm: The After-Party

From around 11pm, our DJs take over and the room moves into the after-party.

Guests who joined us for dinner can stay for drinks and music without leaving the venue, joining another queue or trying to agree on the next destination. We remain open until 2am.

For groups, this continuity is one of the biggest advantages of choosing Playa de Palma and making Tabana the centre of the night.

May and June

Playa de Palma becomes noticeably livelier as hotels fill and more seasonal venues operate regularly. These months suit visitors who want a busy atmosphere without the heaviest summer crowds.

Both Palma city and Playa de Palma are strong options.

July and August

This is peak season around the beach. Playa de Palma is busy from the afternoon into the night, particularly near Balneari 6 and S’Arenal.

Traffic, restaurant demand and taxi waiting times increase. If you are staying in Playa de Palma, remaining local can save a significant amount of travel time.

September

September usually retains much of the summer atmosphere, with warm evenings and active nightlife. It can be one of the best months for combining the beach, dinner and a later night.

Early October can still feel active, particularly when the weather remains warm. Later in the month, some seasonal venues reduce their hours and the promenade becomes quieter.

Palma city begins to offer the more dependable choice for spontaneous bar hopping.

Many seasonal businesses in Playa de Palma close or reduce their opening hours. The promenade, transport connections and year-round attractions remain, but the resort is considerably quieter at night.

Palma city has the broader year-round nightlife during winter because it serves residents as well as visitors.

Assuming Every Palma Address Is in the Old Town

A venue listed as being in Palma may be in the city centre, Playa de Palma or another part of the municipality. Look at the full address before planning the journey.

Treating All of Playa de Palma as Ballermann

Balneari 6 has a distinctive party scene, but it does not represent the entire bay. Can Pastilla, central Playa de Palma and S’Arenal each have different atmospheres.

Booking Dinner in One Area and Nightlife in Another

This can work, but only when the travel time is intentional. Add at least 30 minutes for the journey, plus extra time for waiting, traffic and finding the next venue.

Trying to Walk Between Playa de Palma and Palma City

The distance is approximately 10 to 11 kilometres. Use the bus or a taxi instead.

Going Directly From the Beach to Dinner

If you are joining us, return to your accommodation and change first. Beachwear, sportswear, football shirts, tank tops and flip-flops are not permitted, and men need closed shoes.

Arriving Late and Expecting the Full Tabana Experience

Our live performances are spread throughout dinner. Arriving for the after-party means missing the earlier stages of the evening.

Leaving the Return Journey Until 2am
